In this video, you’ll learn discover how to use Photoshop’s Object Selection tool to quickly select objects and regions within a photograph as well as learn tips and shortcuts for customizing overlay options, choosing selection modes, using the Mask All Objects command, and setting Image Processing preferences.
Here are four additional tips that weren’t included in the video:
• In addition to selecting Layer > Mask all Objects, you can right-click (command + click Mac), on the layers panel to access the Mask All Objects command from the context sensitive menus.
If you have a document that has a single layer (either a Background or a pixel based layer), and you make a selection using the Object Selection tool and have the Object Selection tool selected, pressing Shift + Delete will automatically expand the selection, fill with Content Aware Fill, and then deselect the area. If you have a selection in an image and have a different tool selected (the Lasso or Marquee tool for example) right -click (or Control -click on Mac) and choose “Delete and Fill Selection” from the context sensitive menu to have Photoshop automatically expand the selection, fill with Content Aware Fill, and then deselect the area.
• When creating Actions which require the Select > Subject command (as well as the Object Selection tool, the Select Subject options within the Select and Mask workspace, and the Quick Actions that use Select Subject, to use a specific processing option (Device or Cloud), first record a step in the Action that selects Preferences > Image Processing and selects the desired Select Subject Processing option. Then, record the desired command.
• When the Object Selection tool detects a sky, the sky selection is the same as when choosing Select > Sky.
And in case you’re wondering what the difference is between the Select > Subject command and the Object Selection tool, the Object Selection tool is designed to select a region and/or object (or part of an object) within an image that contains multiple objects. The Select > Subject command is designed to select the main subject(s) in an image.
