Puppet Warp

Adobe Photoshop

Here are several shortcuts for using Puppet Warp.

• After selecting Edit > Puppet Warp, click on the mesh to add pins to adjust the warp. The more pins you place on the image, the more control you’ll have over the warp.

• Use the Options bar to set the rigidity of the warp: Normal – maintains pixel fidelity, Distort is highly elastic and drastically expands or contracts the warp.

• Use the Shift key to select and reposition multiple pins simultaneously.

• With a point targeted, Option (Mac)/ Alt (Win) + drag to rotate around the point.

• Toggle the Mesh visibility using the Options bar or by tapping the “H” key.

• In order to hide the pins while using Puppet Warp, hold down the “H” key. As long as the “H” key is depressed, the pins will be hidden. Release the “H” key to reveal the pins again.

• To delete a single pin, position the cursor over the pin while holding the Option (Mac) / Alt (Win) key and when the icon changes to a pair of scissors, click to “cut” (delete).

• When using Puppet Warp to bend and articulate multiple areas (or objects) on a single layer, click the  Pin Depth “stacking” icon in the Options bar or use the [ or ] (right/left brackets) in order to reposition one warped area above or beneath another (visualize an octopus on a layer where you need to cross one arm over another).

• To use Puppet Warp non destructively, convert the layer(s) into a Smart Object before applying the warp.
