I’ve recently shared two new photography projects captured in the stark and stunning terrain of Death Valley National Park. Both projects embrace the impermanence of the landscape—capturing fleeting shapes and color shifts that echo both the power and delicacy of nature’s design.
Picture yourself in Death Valley, camera in hand, ready to seize the breathtaking interplay of light and shadow that defines this photographer’s paradise. Towering sand dunes, jagged salt flats, expansive badlands, and ancient rock formations await, offering endless opportunities to capture spectacular images. Led by Darran Leal founder of World Photo Adventures and joined by post-processing expert Julieanne Kost, this six-day workshop invites you to hone your skills amidst this awe-inspiring landscape alongside seasoned mentors.

All of the photographs were taken from a small, fixed-wing aircraft with the doors removed. Thanks again to World Photo Adventures for a magnificent trip!

One of my favorite things to do every December is to set aside time to look through all of the photographs that I’ve made in the previous 12 months. I’m often surprised at the insights that I have while reflecting upon the places that I’ve gone, the experiences that I’ve had, and how I chose to document them.
I’ve always wanted to explore the surreal landscapes of Australia so when Darran Leal of World Photo Adventures asked me to join their photographic tour to the Kimberly region and Lake Eyre in May 2023, it was an offer I couldn’t possibly refuse!
I recently had the opportunity to have a conversation with International Award Winning landscape photographer Christian Fletcher and Carwyn about personal projects, photography, an my most recent project: SpringBoard. You can listen to the podcast here, be sure to check out Christian’s photography here, and follow their adventures on Instagram @christianfletcher_gallery and @CarwynPhoto. Enjoy!
A few years ago, I had the opportunity to spend ten days “getting lost” in Iceland. While I’ve long since posted the images to my instagram account (@jkost) and have used them to demonstrate various post processing techniques in Lightroom and Photoshop, I completely forgot that I had also wanted to share my travels as a Spark Page. So, if you’re in need of a quick “virtual trip” to Iceland to see some of the most beautiful waterfalls and landscapes in the world, take a moment and tap/click Read More on the image below

It’s so easy to fill our time with work and other responsibilities, but I still try to work personal photo projects into my life as a way to stay creative, explore new technologies, and expand my vision. So, when I recently had the opportunity to make a quick drive from Virgina to California, I wanted to be sure to make good use of the time. Although we didn’t have time to make a lot of stops, I figured that I could at least take a few photographs along the way. Here are a few of my favorite images taken during the week.
I recently had the opportunity to spend a few moments speaking with Christian Fletcher and Carwin about photography, inspiration, and how a framework can help move a project forward. You can listen to the podcast here…
I recently had the opportunity to spend a few days in Death Valley and thought that I would share 10 quick tips that I was reminded of while I was making photographs.
